Ashtanga is the eight limbed path that involves one’s entire being beyond the physical. Each limb provides the individual with the techniques, understanding and the practice of Yoga. The foundation of the Yamas and Niyamas provide the ethics and groundwork that the student begins with. The asana practice creates the playground for the physical body to maintain harmony. The pranayma practice is essential to our vitality. Pratyahara is the bridgewhich guides a practice in inner attention and sensitivity. Dhyana is the lesson in concentration which grants us the opportunity to focus our energy. Dharana is the practice of absorption in energy. Samadhi is the branch that points us back to ourselves and yoga.
Vinyasa draws from the ashtanga sequences and is then creatively engineered by a teacher and will vary based on the teacher’s theme, focus, spiritual influence and creativity. In this training in addition to learning the ashtanga sequence we will also study intelligent and safe ways to sequence a fluid vinyasa class. In this teacher teacher training there will be special attention paid to alignment and how to incorporate this into teaching asanas in a flow. We will take an in depth look at the 8 limbs of Ashtanga. Students will learn how to properly assist, how to instruct meditation, pranayama, mantras and chanting. There will be a mix of analytical training and how to teach and practice traditional Yoga techniques. We will cover both bodily systems and energy systems of anatomy and physiology. There will also be guest sessions in Anatomy with guest teacher Pete Whitridge and Ayurveda studies with Amba Greene. Yoga Philosophy and lifestyle will be studied delving into Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita. Also Nada Yoga (Yoga of Sound), including sanskrit, mantras, chants and kirtan.
